We purchased this book as a practice/review to to expand on our homeschooling lessons of multiplying. I like how this book breaks it into sections, has ample practice parts for so numbers and explains multiplication thoroughly.

I home school a 3rd grader and we used this book as a supplement. This is how the book is laid out. The first 4 lessons were repeated addition.(2+2+2+2= ) 4 lessons of that. My son has dyslexia and multiple pages of that got confusing. I ripped them out. Lesson 5 we start multiplication. First we skip count by 2. Then we trace all the multiplication facts. The next page on lesson is the words written below with numbers above. I suppose so you can read the answer. Then at bottom the standard looking single digit problem. I felt having the words written was confusing. Also the answer on the same page to defeat the purpose. My son said look mom the answer is here. I don’t have to learn them. The next 1 1/2 lessons looks the same way but the full math problem was written in words. Is this math practice or reading? Again answer on page with words. I ended up writing the math problem in and leaving answer blank but the written word answer was below it. There were some review pages thrown in but the basic plan follows the above outline. Pros lots of math practice. The math facts are covered in order. Nice review every few facts learned. Cons too many words!! I had to write so many of the problems ( yes they wrote the math problem out in words for example two times two is four) in for him. It required extra work for me I just couldn’t hand the book off. At least 10 math problems were written in words on most lessons. This is not a problem for the average child. I have a son who is dyslexic and this was just a huge issue for us. We used the book made the corrections the book needed and he knows his math facts.

This has been a great guidance for my kids and I. The books helped my kids learn step by step and I really do see improvements. Its great for me, I simply use the answer sheet to correct and it helps me find out what their weaknesses are. Overall I really like Kumon workbooks compare to previous companies that I have purchased because I do see improvements. Next year I will purchase Kumon again.

Every summer I buy workbooks for my two boys. This year I chose Kumon, I purchase the whole collection of Grade 4 for my son going into 4th grade and the whole collection of Grade 3 (thinking Grade 2 would be too easy) for my son going into 2nd grade. Later on I found that my younger son had difficulties in some areas in Grade 3 so I bought Grade 2.

My three children used to go to Kumon for a year. I found their math program the best because through repetition it ingrained the multiplication facts into my daughter that by the start of third grade she had them down pat. She was the first in her class to accomplish her multiplication facts. So now I am using this math book for my twins who are in third grade to help them with multiplication. With the current situation and only being in school for three hours a day they need all the practice they can get.

My daughters least favorite subject is math, so I needed something to help her understand and get multiplication. She is about 12 pages through the book and I’m starting to thing she’s finally getting it.

My son was having trouble learning his times tables and this book has drastically improved it. We have only reached halfway through at this point but I am absolutely happy at the results so far. I love how this book goes little by little teaching how repeated addition applies to multiplication at first and then goes on to demonstrate skip counting with each times table. As the days go by I can see him gaining confidence in the work he does and he actually asks to do his work now. *shock* We homeschool and it’s amazing how a simple switch of a workbook can create such a difference. I never thought he would actually enjoy doing drill work. We will definitely be using other kumon workbooks to supplement through the rest of the year.

The book begins with repeated addition to explain the concept of multiplication. It makes it easier for kids too. Then slowly tables are introduced step by step with sufficient practice for each. It would help if you just follow the chapters in sequence for better practice and reviewing.. say you practiced table of 2 in chapter 1 then you will see questions to practice it again later in another chapter.
