UH Manoa First Year Programs

First Year Programs offers a freshman integration program called Access to College Excellence or “ACE” which is intended to assist freshmen with the transition from high school to college. In ACE, freshmen are able to choose a cluster that’s closely related to a major they’re interested in, and will automatically be signed up for the classes within that cluster. These courses may fulfill their major or graduation requirements, and also includes a one-credit seminar class, UNIV 110, which is led by an upperclassman peer mentor. Students will be in the same classes with other people signed up in the same cluster which gives them an opportunity to form relationships with their peers. Additionally, they are able to register for classes at least a week earlier than standard registration for incoming students. This semester, we are offering 35 clusters which are tailored to a variety of specific majors, including Pre-Engineering, Pre-Business, Pre-Nursing, Education, and Exploratory. Registering for ACE allows freshmen to develop successful academic strategies, create social and interpersonal networks, and get involved in a variety of campus events!
